Spring break is coming up, which means trips to warm locations and trying to look good in that bathing suit. This is powerful motivation to go on a diet. Trying to lose weight is hard for the average person, but for a Simpson student whose weekly diet consists of starchy foods from Pfeiffer and a weekend diet of beer, it's even harder.
The Simpson College Music Department is hosting its annual spring Music Weekend Feb. 23-24. The event focus is to introduce prospective music students to Simpson's student life by providing them with interaction among music majors on campus. The music weekend also offers prospective students a chance to audition for a music scholarship.
I don't know about you, but I'm sure most would agree this weather sucks! Honestly, it's been like below zero for two weeks. And could we get any more snow? At this rate, we'll have a foot on the ground to kick off a great spring break. January and February are also the prime months for the winter blues to kick in.
Award season is finally coming to a close on Feb. 25 with the Mecca of all award shows, the Oscars. The 79th Annual Academy Awards will air at 7 p.m. on ABC where the year's best will be rewarded for their outstanding work. Though more than 20 awards are given out at the Oscars, there are always the few big awards that really become the focus of the evening.
Melisse Walpole, assistant director of annual giving and alumni relations, has busy and eventful days. After graduating from Concordia College in Minnesota, Walpole moved to North Dakota where she worked in fundraising and events planning. In October of 2004, Walpole relocated to Des Moines with her husband after seeing a job opening at Simpson.
